Quiet Time - Washington, D.C.

Most cities are non-stop hustle and bustle, but if one is up early enough, there is another side that becomes apparent. Washington, DC is special because of the monument parklands and the Tidal Basin. There are no homes or apartments too close and most of the area is separated from the main business district. It becomes quite peaceful and quiet in the early morning with just the occasional jogger or dog walker.

This particular morning I stood with my dachshund as my trusty assistant along the banks of the Tidal Basin with the Jefferson Memorial off to my right and the Washington Monument in front. As I stood there, a raft of ducks swam over. Several decide to hang out in the still waters right in front of me. Sofie, my dachshund, amazingly sat there calmly watching them preening and soaking up the morning light. It was a wonderfully soothing moment of peace and quiet in the middle of a city.
